Simple Flight Model vs Advanced Flight Model

The game engine has limits. The “simple flight model” aka SFM is only supports some animation sources. The Advanced Flight Model aka AFM, supports far more. Therefore some things work in AFM and not SFM etc. The biggest differences are in:

  • Speed control and limits
  • Damage model fidelity
  • Flight model and Handling setup/limits
  • PhysX and behaviour on roadways
  • Lift and power
  • Torque indicators on the MFD Dispays
  • RPM indicator on the MFD Dispays

Game Engine Limits

Issue Simple Flight Model Advanced Flight Model
Rolling Landings NO Yes - ensure the wheel brake is off and only touch down ~50kph. You will be able to to taxi the aircraft with gentle pressure on the cyclic.
Overspeed NO Yes - Over 300Kph the main rotor will become ineffective and either cause damage or lose lift falling out of the sky.
Tail Rotor Damage Yes, only via hit point of impact damage Yes - Sa with SFM but with the added threat of over torquing the tail rotor by apply too much rudder at high speeds.
