The System

The Rapier Field Standard "C" is made up of three units:

  1. DAGGER Search Radar
  2. BLINDFIRE Fire Control Radar
  3. Rapier Launcher

The FSC is a tactical short range air defence installation inded for Airfield and key infrastructure defence against fast and low flying targets ranging from helos right up to attack jets. in-game the system is designed to be autonomous but can be controlled from the UAV Terminal if needed.

In the real world each of the units is connected by a data cable. While we dont have this ingame they do have Data Linking enabled. So they will share targets with any other Datalink enabled assets on your side. The System has a three tier range system.

DAGGER

The long range search Radar in the set. ingame it has a 16Km 360 degree omnidirectional detection area.

BLINDFIRE

The BLINDFIRE Fire Control Radar. This has a 10Km x 60 degree directional detection radar cone as well as Optical IR tracking. Its mounted on a turret system.

Rapier

The Rapier Field Standard C (FSC) Launcher. This has an 8km x 60 degree directional detection radar cone as well as Optical IR tracking. Its mounted on a turret system which carries 8x Rapier 2000 missiles. The Launcher can function on its own, it is self contained but against multiple targets and to get the best performance use both the DAGGER and BLINDFIRE.

Ammo Pack

A custom ammo pack with enough points to reload 9 missiles is also available.

In Game placement

Command Hierarchy

For best results place the units in a hierarchy.

  • DAGGER = Officer
  • BLINDFIRE = Sergeant
  • RAPIER = Private

The ingame mechanics will help it follow orders and prioritise targets. (This has been tested with mixed results but it does appear to perform better when done)

Placement and Spacing

Due to Arma's 'interesting' physics the units may start to slide down hills etc depending on the angle of placement. Try and place the units on flat ground.

The Launchers should be at least 50m apart. Any closer and they may just kill each other. Especially when the targets are low and close to the horizon.

Taking Control

You can take control of any of the units at any time via a UAV Terminal, just liek the stock BI SAM systems.

  • The DAGGER is not very dynamic. All you can do is use the Radar and assign targets. if the Radar is off you will be able to recieve datalinked targets but not actively track anything.
  • The BLINDFIRE is a Turret with an Optical and Radar Targeting system. With the Radar off it is possible to target and guide missiles onto planes and helos manually using the laser.
  • The RAPIER is a again a Turret with the same sensors as the BLINDFIRE but obviously armed with 8x Missiles.
